INTERNET PRESENCE

Because there are so many customers (and potential customers) out there on the Internet, how can you best use the Web to expand your business?

    • Build a Basic Website.
Virtually every business, no matter how small, needs at least  a bare-bones website. Customers and clients check you out on the Web, and they expect to find at least a description of who you are, what you do, and how they can contact you.

    • Include In-Depth Product and Service Descriptions
Customers are researching their purchases on the Web, so why not give them the information they're seeking? A website gives you the luxury of explaining your offerings in detail and motivating customers to buy. It's an inexpensive way to build a catalog or descriptive online brochure.  This also allows you to keep your print advertising to a minimum by directing potential customers to your website where they can find detailed information about you, your products and services.

    • Promote Online Sales
Americans are clearly comfortable making purchases over the Internet. If they're buying, why aren't you selling? Remember, your profit margins are higher when customers purchase directly from you rather than through a retailer or even your own storefront.

    • Communicate Inexpensively with Potential Customers
Send out an email newsletter. It's always a good idea to keep your name in front of your customers. You also might want a way to frequently let your customer know about special offers or new products. The Internet makes it relatively inexpensive to stay in touch with your customers regularly.

    • Advertise on the Internet.
Because it's difficult to attract large numbers of visitors to your own website, it's often wise to advertise on another website related to your business. For instance, if you make bicycle seats, you can advertise on a site for bicycle enthusiasts.
